To Be Or Not To Be – America – Revolt or Revise?

Seven score and thirteen years ago President Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address at the site of the Civil War’s bloodiest battle, which was a turning point in holding this nation together in a most divisive time.

Lincoln questioned whether our nation, conceived in Liberty, could long endure, and he helped dedicate a portion of that battlefield “for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live.” He honored the “brave men, living and dead, who struggled” to help keep the Union intact.

Today is also a divisive period, albeit, not in the same sense as the American Civil War. In the more than a century and a half since President Lincoln spoke those words, America has endured, in large part due to brave men and women who have given their lives or limbs, or sacrificed their own freedoms and sometimes even families, to keep this nation whole.

The cry of revolution and “take back our country, with arms if necessary” is spreading on social media, clamoring in barrooms, and being debated at many dinner tables across America today. The anger and frustration of years of political strife and seemingly paralyzed elected bodies justifies these emotions. Adding to the dilemma are meddling enemies of freedom abroad and within our own borders. The potential Balkanization of America has terrorists and certain foreign leaders drooling in anticipation. Still, many honest Americans are fed up with modern day politics, especially this election cycle.

Before you give up on democracy, though, you should give these points consideration.  Since the Revolutionary War, hundreds of thousands of American service members and intelligence agents have spilt their blood for you. Millions more, from all 50 states and the territories, have sacrificed dearly so that you enjoy the special and unique freedoms that ONLY Americans enjoy. Law enforcement, fire fighters, EMT first responders sacrifice for you every single day. American businesses provide you with an awesome variety of products that make life easier and entertaining. For most of us, life is pretty good right now.

For those inciting revolution, do you think any alternative America and its new constitution would include the Bill of Rights that allow us to breathe and live such freedom? Would majorities and minorities still share power and protection? Would we be a nation of character, integrity, and honor? This is not a perfect union now, never will be, and it could be a lot less so.

The makeup of the Supreme Court, who we select as president, and the makeup of Congress is important to us all. But are a few years or decades of one political club tilting the scale worth dishonoring all that has been built and all that has been sacrificed?

The patriots who gave their “last full measure” deserve more of our effort and attention. One might say they demand it from their graves! What’s more, the world needs America to stay united. We do much more good on the planet Earth than harm. Our freedom-loving people deserve more effort. Our children and grandchildren should grow in the same warmth of liberty of which we were handed by our parents and grandparents.

Let’s cease this talk of violence and revolt and give America another chance, some more time and effort to get it right, revise and refine, so that “government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

Conservatism My Way

In an era when democrats are calling Trump and his followers conservatives, I felt it necessary to define what conservatism means to me, and it is nearly the polar opposite of Trumpkins. Not every conservative thinks alike and there are many varieties, but true conservatives will probably agree with the majority of my points. If you can agree with most of them, then feel free to share this; what the heck, share it anyways. Start a converstion!

Conservative Principles & Traits

1. Constitutional Conservative. Believes in and supports the United States Constitution and all of its amendments, even when it is inconvenient. Our founding framework for freedom is amendable, so if there is something you don’t like or think is outdated, fix it. Yes, it is a high hurdle to amend the Constitution, and it should be! Protect our bill of rights and freedom that our founders and creator gave us and countless service members have sacrificed to maintain. Don’t give them away!

2. Pro-Life. Abortion should not be an accepted form of birth control. Late-term abortion is clearly reprehensible and murder in my view. I am pro-life also when it comes to capital punishment. We have the capability to put murderers behind bars for life and the fact that human beings, including juries and prosecutors, make mistakes all the time warrants prison instead of death. You cannot undo lethal injection once it did its job. I only believe in killing for self and national defense. Many conservatives will not agree with me on the death penalty, but I hope they come around.

3. Border & Immigration Security. We are a sovereign nation and should keep it that way. Terrorism and migration of undesirables are valid reasons to secure our borders and reform legal immigration policy. However, we should not violate our Constitution as we beef up our security. Calling for the deportation of American citizens for their religious beliefs is a violation of our key founding principle. We should build walls, fences, and electronic security on our borders. We should also cease any policy that encourages people to illegally enter our country, such as the social programs the Obama admin has been offering them, and sanctuary cities that protect them from our laws. We should also modify our legal immigration policy to profile – yes PROFILE – potential immigrants and properly vet them to assure they are not terrorists or criminals or sympathizers of the same. We should be seeking people that will contribute to our nation and assimilate with our culture. If they want to come to America to form a mini version of the country and culture they are leaving, we don’t need them. We are a passionate and humane nation and we can accept certain refugees from persecution. But we are not a stupid or crazy people. Don’t try to make us into Europe where Islamic radicals are transforming their society. Not here!

4. Crime Does Not Pay. We should make that phrase applicable again. If you commit a crime you will have to pay a specific debt to society. Violent criminals should definitely spend a long time in a cell. If you purposely take a life and it is not self defense you forfeit your freedom forever. Here is where some conservatives will disagree with me. The War on Drugs was never waged to win. Drug and alcohol abuse are involved in some way to a majority of crimes in America. Home invasions, theft, assault, and murder usually involve drug and/or alcohol abuse. The trend is to de-criminalize and legalize drugs. This is a big mistake. Instead, we should treat drug dealers like murderers, because in many cases, that is what they are. It is not just the addicted person whose life is ruined, but entire families. Treatment should be offered to addicts, but in many cases harsher measures must be taken to break the cycle. Today, we tend to keep addicts addicted by providing them with never-ending access to methadone or other type clinics. This prevents them from ever contributing to families and society. Limit the treatment. Design a program that works. If that includes incarceration, so be it.

5. Limited Government, Fiscal Responsibility. What happened to the Republican Party’s mantra of small government? The federal government has ballooned under democrat and republican administrations and congress. Along with that is a colossal waste of taxpayers’ money and infringement of Liberty. All levels of government can be significantly trimmed. Politicians and judges have used creative license to interpret the Constitution’s definition of federal government role to include everything under the sun. This cannot continue. Get back to basics!

6. Strong Defense. If we allow our military to decline in funding and number any further, we will not be able to perform the basic function of federal government that the Constitution demands. Security of our nation from enemies, which we have many, is crucial. At the same time, we should adopt former Secretry of Defence Cap Weinberger’s rules for when it is appropriate to put military members in harm’s way. Google it. The United States is not a colonial empire and we should not always be the world’s policeman. We should always put U.S. national security interests above all, as well as honor our treaties with allies.

7. Civil Liberties. This is a complicated one. When it comes to marriage, religion, and morality, social conservatives often conflict with fiscal conservatives. Gay marriage, transgendered rights, and the list goes on. I lean libertarian and am torn on this issue. In my opinion, marriage is a religious institution dating back far before The Declaration of Independence. The First Amendment guarantees freedom of religion. I had hoped civil unions for gays would have been sufficient as long as they had the same privileges and benefits of married couples. But the Supreme Court has ruled and it is now the law that gays can be married. Now ‘transgendered’ and people who self-identify as something other than themselves want all sorts of rights and special privileges. The result is that a small minority get to impose their wills on the majority, and religous and other freedoms are infringed upon others. For instance, a Christian baker family has lost their religious freedom in order to satisfy a gay couple who could’ve ordered a wedding cake from numerous other bakers, but insisted on making a case against the Christians. This is rediculous! Our system of government is designed to protect minorities, as it should be. But no where in the Constitution does it say minority rules, or a minority’s civil rights outweigh the majority’s rights. No more! On morality, whether you are religious or not, as a conservative you most certainly believe that a nation and its people must have a moral compass to keep them from abusing power. There IS a right and wrong. Without a moral center, many wrongs and atrocities are possible. This is my biggest concern with Mr. Donald Trump and his followers. They either don’t have or don’t care about morality.

8. Free-Market Capitalism. We did not become the greatest nation on planet Earth using socialism or communism as our economic system. We used a reasonably regulated free enterprise system where individuals and companies make profit by providing products and services to others. If you want to reap the benefits of socialism, move  to Venezuela.

9. Fact over Fiction. Whether it be within our government, schools, media, or elsewhere, conservatives prefer dealing with fact and evidence instead of rumor, myth, or lies. Unless we are reading a novel for entertainment we like the truth, even when it hurts. To those who say there is no such thing as truth: Be Gone! Yes, there are gray areas here and there, but most things can be boiled down to true or false. Schools should stop revising history (and math) and teach the truth. There is good and bad in our history. The kids can handle it. But stop being political. They will form their own political beliefs as adults. Teachers or government don’t need to brainwash them. The media has First Amendment rights, but I implore them to stop trying to affect American politics and instead impartially report on it. This election cycle has demonstrated how corrupt both our government and media have become. The American people themselves have to become more responsible and stop spreading myth and rumor on social media. It is fairly easy to fact-check using the Internet or library.

10. Freedom. If America can exemplify one concept, it is freedom. It is why we were founded, and what we grew and nurtured through the generations. Not everyone enjoyed freedom equally at the beginning, but like any infant, we grew and learned and are now the beacon of hope and liberty to oppressed people everywhere on the globe. Let’s keep it that way. Our founders insisted on a Bill of Rights before they approved the Constitution because they knew in order to keep our government from becoming just another dictatorship, we needed guaranteed individual freedoms. These liberties are now under constant attack by politicians, radical judges, and groups who really want to make a more powerful central government. We will no longer be America if we allow this to continue.

11. My Eleventh Commandmant! Elected officials affect our lives in many ways. Our liberty, our money, our future depend on electing people who exhibit high levels of integrity, character, honor, and conviction. Does this mean they should be rigid and inflexible? No. But they should be honest, principled, and courageous. Voters can put these type of people in office, or as has been trending, they can put waffling, unethical, power-hungry people in office. We get what we deserve!

Populists May Doom Us All

Populists May Doom Us All
I never use the “Hitler card” lightly; in fact, I don’t think I have tossed it out there before. But this is no time to be cautious when Americans’ freedoms are at stake. After watching the Republican debate on February 13, 2016, I thought to myself that if the polls still called Trump the winner after that performance, the dangerous populist movement was well under way. Well, here we are!

Anyone who actually watched the debate – with eyes open and just a tad bit of objectivity – would clearly see that Donald Trump revealed his true nature and political leanings, and that he had a poor debate performance. His claims that President George W. Bush didn’t keep us safe from the 9-11 terrorists attack hinted of conspiracy theory and doesn’t reflect reality. His love of eminent domain – even for private enterprise uses such as malls and casino parking lots – was never shared by republicans and conservatives in the past. His ideas on tax policy, Planned Parenthood, universal health care, and many other issues have been banner ideas in the other party, not the GOP!

Blindly accepting someone’s claims and ideas without analyzing truth, instead disregarding facts and reality is a dangerous development. The German people did that in the 20s and 30s and up rose Adolf Hitler. Trump reminds me of Hitler somewhat. I think Trump sees himself as never wrong and above critique and perhaps even God-like.

This is a Republican primary. Where the hell are the republicans? Are they really going to toss out their principles and sense of morality because Trump said he would build a wall and make the Mexicans pay for it. Are you that superficial, republicans?

I know a lot of independents and democrats that are staunch Trump supporters. That is why I do not believe the so-called experts who say if Trump is the nominee, he would not be elected. I think he would win the election. It is up to the republicans to come to their senses and nominate a conservative, or even a moderate for god sakes, but not a liberal populist with a dangerous lack of knowledge (what’s a nuclear triad?), no moral compass, an over-abundance of vulgarness and conceit, and contempt for the Constitution. This man should not be the one with his finger on the button or the one who will select the next few Supreme Court Justices. Our freedom, way of life, and maybe even our lives will be on the line. No, this is not hyperbole. It is a distinct possibility.

Republican Values

An Open Letter to the Republican Party: Local, State, National

I have been a Republican for 40 years , ever since I voted for Gerald Ford in ’76, and witnessed, with dismay, the enthusiastic outburst within my Navy Boot Camp barracks when the Company Commander announced Jimmy Carter had won the election. (confession: I strayed once when I was stationed on the Left coast; there was something in the water!)

An American first, Conservative second, and then Republican, my loyalty lies with the United States Constitution and this great nation. I realize that the Republican Party needs to be a “wide tent” accepting many people with varied viewpoints, not just those that share my own conservative beliefs. Calling moderates “RINOs” and right-wingers “extremists” is not constructive or beneficial to the party, or America. I also don’t believe that if there was a conservative candidate that had a check mark next to every single conservative talking point, that that person should necessarily be the appropriate nominee, just as I do believe we NEED more than one party in our system; we NEED varied opinion and ideas. No one person or party is perfect and knows all at all times. A candidate with a staunch conservative record could also lack character and integrity, virtues I believe are crucial in a leader.

That being said, I have some deep concerns about the direction of the party, and I appreciate you taking the time to read and consider them. Please, do not take any of this personally.

America has taken an ideological turn to the left in recent years, and the Republican Party has been affected as well. As they say, the pendulum continues to swing. One thing that has been fairly steady in the past few decades, though, is republicans sticking with certain principles, such as those listed in the official Republican Party Platform: limited government, maximum freedoms and liberties, free enterprise, constitutional government, and restoring the American Dream. There is one candidate, if you look deeper and care about facts, that may be the polar opposite of these principles, and could tear the party, and the country apart more than has already been done. Here are some examples:

  • Giving fuel to Hillary Clinton’s claim that Republicans are waging a “War on Women” is not the way to win a general election. Donald Trump’s disgusting attacks on Carly Fiorina and Megyn Kelly and others does not exemplify the values I have always associated with the Republican Party. The despicable comments he made regarding Fiorina’s looks and Kelly’s “bleeding” lady parts (you know that is what he meant) should make every republican shun him. Both of those ladies possess the character and integrity that Trump seems to lack. But those comments actually helped drive his polls up. That deeply disturbs me, and it should you, as well.
  • Being captured on the battlefield and becoming a POW is not a dishonorable act. Unless your name is Bowe Bergdahl and you purposely left your post in search of comfort or alliance with the enemy, you are an American hero. John McCain was our nominee a few years back. As a conservative, I wasn’t overly-enthused about his candidacy, but I voted for him. More importantly, I recognize that his service in Vietnam as a warrior and a POW was honorable and heroic. Donald Trump only likes veterans who “weren’t captured.” Does that mean he also does not like veterans who had the audacity to be wounded? What does he think about our fallen heroes? The Republican Party that I knew valued every veteran who served honorably whether republican, democrat, or independent.
  • Republicans have always been the advocates of freedom, individual liberty, and limited government. Many in the party were outraged in 2005 when the Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision proclaimed that the government could take an individual’s property and hand it over to commercial enterprises if it fosters economic development. Trump wholeheartedly agreed with that decision and has even used it in his business dealings. Stealing someone’s property for another’s business venture is not a Republican value.
  • For years Trump was pro-choice and even favored partial-birth abortions. Then, as he contemplated a run for president a few years ago, he suddenly had a change of heart and flipped to pro-life. Whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, was this sudden switch believable? His views on universal health care fit more in the Democratic Party instead of the GOP.
  • The bankruptcies Trump’s businesses have filed over the years harmed not just his lenders. Banks and other lending institutions don’t just eat those losses, they pass them on to consumers. Us! Additionally, the banks needed bailouts, in part because of these types of business practices, and Trump supported us taxpayers paying the bill. Paying his bills. He also stiffed contractors and other hard-working Americans. If Capitalism is the “Force,” then Trump represents the “Dark Side.”
  • The Donald has made the core of his campaigning a melting pot of insults, liberal solutions, personal and vicious attacks against fellow republicans, and dishonesty. Unprofessional. I wonder if he is also hiding ulterior motives and ambitions. Former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger once remarked that presidential candidate Barack Obama was a charlatan, who was deceiving the nation, and would ultimately harm it. He was right. I fear the Republicans now have a charlatan in their midst in Donald Trump.
  • Trump’s widely recorded public tantrums remind me of a four-year-old than of a person that could be sitting in the Oval Office with the power to wage war and dramatically affect all of our lives.
  • The damage Barack Obama has done to this country in so many ways will still be coming to light well after he is out of office. When I raised my hand to “preserve and defend” the Constitution, I meant it. I will never vote for a candidate whom I believe will harm the Constitution and this country. That includes Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Donald Trump. If my preferred candidates are not nominated, I could vote for Bush, Christie, and even Kasich, but never Trump.

I uphold the former Republican values, not the ones that appear to be taking shape today. Trump talks tough on illegal immigration (something many of us are in agreement) and “promises” to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it; this “talk” does not qualify him as our nominee. We should look, instead, at his long history of comments and acts on a wide assortment of issues, and make a decision on them and not on his sudden flip flops on issues that make it appear he is more aligned with the Republican Party. Do not succumb to populism. His fellow candidate, Senator Ted Cruz, brought up Trump’s New York values. I go further and question today’s republican values. If they continue to align more with the other party I will be saddened that after forty years I must seek a divorce. I will have no part in harming this country or ignoring the Constitution. I fear Trump will not make America great again. Instead he will push it over the edge of the cliff where Barack Obama has placed it.

If you support Donald Trump my hope is that you will take a closer look at his record through the years. Please do not pick him for his rhetoric of the past few months. Thank you for reading this letter.

P.S. It interesting that former President Jimmy Carter’s favorite “republican” candidate is Donald Trump, because Trump is “malleable!”

What is an Oath without Honor?

“Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation: — “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Article II, Section 1, Clause 8

Constitution of the United States of America

What is an Oath without Honor?

President Obama takes the Oath of Office.

President Obama takes the Oath of Office.

More than a million American service members have given the ultimate sacrifice fighting for the ideals laid out in the Constitution of the United States since the Revolutionary War. Our freedoms and our rights have been paid for with an ocean of blood. Yet many politicians and their supporters trample on the constitution seemingly without a thought. The chief trampler in recent times is the person charged with defending that very document. He raised his hand and took an oath to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.” What is an oath without honor?

President Obama was purportedly a college constitutional law professor. One wonders how many classes he skipped as he was being educated in that field of study. Did he mirror what he later did in the Illinois State Legislature, when he voted “present” instead of taking a stand, making a decision? He put little effort into his state legislature duties and perhaps he put minimal effort during his academic years. Most likely he believes as many of his colleagues and supporters believe, that the constitution is an old, obsolete document that no longer deserves the attention or adherence that was afforded it until recent years.

A key word in the constitution’s oath may give Obama an excuse for his flagrant constitutional violations and his refusal to enforce the laws of the United States. That word is “Ability.” There is the possibility that Obama is doing the best of his Ability, but is somewhat lacking in that quality. Certainly that is an excuse many can easily accept and therefore ignore the harder truth behind his administration’s illegal and unethical actions.

I believe the truth is a combination of traits and objectives that Obama and many other leaders in his party share. Yes, there are people from other parties who also share a few of these “qualities” as well, but the majority of the modern day Democratic Party own the abundance of this belief system. Obama’s actions are explained by these points:

  1. De-emphasis on honor and integrity in our leaders. Politicians have long been associated with telling lies in order to gain political points. But Obama and his colleagues have taken this to a new level. His administration and the Democratic leaders in the senate and house continually fabricate stories and outright lie to the American people. The concept of “doubling down” and “tripling down” on lies is now associated with them, as evidenced during the continuing ObamaCare hoax, the IRS targeting of conservative groups, and now in the illegal executive orders Obama has issued on illegal aliens, protecting 5 million or more from deportation. Obama, himself, clearly stated that he did not have the power to make such an executive order. He affirmed that stance more than 20 times in the past few years, yet as soon as the midterm elections were over, he did exactly what he said he could not do, without the powers of a king or emperor. Deception equates to winning. Honor, character, and integrity are no longer qualities that Americans deem our leaders should possess is one message you can take from recent presidential elections. Perhaps the mid-term elections are a hint that Americans are waking up and changing their minds on this issue. We will see in 2016.
  2. Obama has a completely different world view than most Americans, although more and more people in the Democratic Party now share his radicalism as the “Blue Dog” democrats disappear. Obama sees America as a problem on the world stage instead of a force for good and freedom. Certainly we got clues of his views by those he associated with through the past few decades, including “Reverend” Jeremiah Wright and Terrorist Bill Ayers. All the world’s problems can be traced back to the United States is a common theme from these people. Obama’s father depicted America as a colonial power that has stolen the resources from the rest of the world. Anti-colonialists that believe America is guilty of these crimes decried the fall of the Soviet Union, as they perceived the Soviets as the one check against America’s power. Indeed, most of Obama’s policy towards Russian President Vladimir Putin’s apparent effort to restore the old Soviet Union seems to aid Putin in that goal, whether intentionally or not. Just look to the Ukraine and Syria. Obama is damaging America’s standing in the world, and effectiveness as a world leader.
  3. Open Borders mentality. Many on the far left do not believe in secure borders, at least not for America. It is a-ok for other countries to secure their borders and arrest and imprison those that break their laws. That bit of sovereignty does not apply to America. Obama’s lack of securing the border, lack of enforcing immigration laws, and his recent executive orders certainly appease the open borders folks, while at the same time create a huge potential for millions of more democratic voters, whether legal or not. It also has a side-effect of redistributing wealth from the middle class to immigrants who chose to break the law instead of immigrating legally as millions of others have done throughout our history. American taxpayers will now foot the bill for free healthcare, free education (including college), and other free services for many of these people that most American citizens are not even afforded.

American voters have one more chance to take back their country, but it will be an uphill battle because Obama has stacked the decks against them. The only chance to restore any resemblance of honor, leadership, freedom, and sanity in our government is to elect a real leader in 2016 who will work with Congress, instead of bypassing them, and undo some of the more destructive actions Obama achieved during his eight years as dictator.

The only chance this can happen is if the Independents reject Obama’s ideology AND if there is a resurgence of Blue Dog Democrats. The Republican Party consists of conservatives, moderates, and liberals (often called RINOs), yet is labeled an extremist party by liberals. The Democrat Party in recent years consists primarily of far left-wing members. There are few moderate or conservatives among them. Congress will have a tough time working together and across the aisle if that demographic remains. Grassroots democrats must take their party back from the true extremists in this last ditch effort.

What happens if this fails? Then the one party that ignores the laws in order to recruit millions of more voters to their side will guarantee one-party dominance for the foreseeable future. When that time comes, we have lost our Republic and any semblance of democracy. Then what? Surrender and live with it, or . . .

Duck Dynasty & the Francification of America

Duck Dynasty star and family patriarch Phil Robertson saw the light after a sinful past and is now a devout christian who strictly interprets the bible and lives his life by its guidance. In the new America that is not acceptable. Professing his belief that adultery, homosexuality, and other “immoral” acts are sinful during a magazine article interview was his downfall. In a politically-correct obsessed nation where small interest groups enjoy almost limitless power to instill fear and provoke retribution, timid networks and corporate sponsors cower and quiver.

I have never seen a full episode of A&E’s Duck Dynasty. But I am a staunch supporter of freedom of speech and religion and therefore I am now a huge fan of Phil Robertson.

The PC police and speech patrol probably use France as their model and goal for America to imitate and intimidate. France’s hate speech laws encompass a whole wide range of speech that up to now has been protected in America. There are stiff civil and criminal penalties for uttering “words” that might offend certain favored groups. In fact, if one were to state the incredulous belief that the Holocaust never occurred, he/she could spend 5 years in prison. (I wish the former president of Iran would go to France and repeat his favorite opium-induced rhetoric) There are also stiff fines and other penalties for making disparaging or controversial remarks about gays and many other groups of people.

Robertson expressed the sentiments that many christians, muslims, and other folks believe. Not only did the Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender (LGBT) group and the lame-stream media immediately pounce on this politically-incorrect statement, they also took it out of context. Robertson listed several “vices” that he believed were sinful, including homosexuality, adultery, drunkenness, and bestiality. He did not compare them to each other.

Many Americans and our parents and grandparents hold similar beliefs. Should they now, in an intolerant American society, refrain from sharing their thoughts else experience swift and vicious condemnation and shame? Can Americans no longer interpret the bible literally? Does the same standard apply to the koran and other religious documents? How long before criticisms and beliefs such as Robertson’s advance beyond politically-incorrect to illegal? Folks, we are witnessing the Francification of America.

Here in Maine the Marriage Equality law passed a year or so ago. Internally, I struggled long and hard on that issue because of my personal understanding of Nature, morality, and my passionate belief in civil liberties. At the ballot box, my passion for freedom and liberty won out and I voted in favor of gay marriage. But I wondered at the time if winning their fight might empower gays to go even further and use their cause to suppress other peoples’ freedoms. I fear that is what we are witnessing now.

Modern media and technology has given unprecedented power to minority groups, which now oftentimes uses that resource to successfully oppress others, an irony that continues to amaze and worry me.

Duck Dynasty fans are accustomed to witnessing the family prayers at the end of the show. If a person if offended by that, they can just switch the channel! Robertson never said those “anti-gay” words on his show, but in a GQ magazine article. Why are they singling out the TV show instead of the magazine?

I’ll tell you why. It is not just the fact that Robertson believes homosexuality is a sin, but it is his christian belief in general and his audacity of sharing some of his thoughts and beliefs in prayers on the show. In 21st century America, Christianity has been singled out as unacceptable and bigoted. Christians are being intimidated and ridiculed and being forced into the dark closet from which gays have been exiting.

Offensive language is subjective. Oppressing offensive speech and thoughts, by law or intimidation, is bound to affect us all.

I fear it will not be long before the words I just wrote will be illegal and banned.

Even though I have not been a fan of Duck Dynasty in the past, I do enjoy watching A&E movies. Today, however, I have taken A&E out of my program guide list and will no longer watch anything on A&E until they and their cowardly sponsors gives Phil Robertson his job back and apologizes to its viewers. It is not Phil Robertson and the Duck Dynasty cast/family that are the biggest offenders and danger to America, it is the speech and thought police and the tyrannical special interest groups such as LGBT that seek to shut down all other speech and thoughts of which they disagree with and their thin skin and intolerant minds cannot accept.

‘Yes We Can’ Destroy America As We Know It

Barack Obama’s campaign slogan during the 2008 presidential elections was “Yes We Can” bring “fundamental change” to America. Most conservatives and liberals understood that fundamental change meant drastic alterations to the “core” principles that America’s founding fathers and the U.S. Constitution gifted to the new nation more than 200 years ago. Conservatives abhor those changes. Liberals depend upon them. Those principles of individual freedoms, equality, and justice eventually led to the United States of America becoming the most powerful, and most just and humane country on Earth. Yes, mistakes and injustice were part of that history as there is no such thing as a perfect union. But America exhibited those virtues of courage, loyalty, compassion, and freedom in a better fashion than any other nation.

Five years after first winning the White House, Obama and his fellow progressives have completed the first phase of “fundamental change,” which I will hereafter refer to its synonym—destruction– of America’s core principles. In 2012, Obama was re-elected with a 51.1% vote, to continue his socialization of America. We are now witnessing the fast-track in the destruction of the values and principles that once made this country great and the envy of the world.

Obama and his cohorts are destroying the foundations of our national character that had earned the respect (and perhaps fear) of world leaders, both allies and enemies. Today, we no longer stand by our friends. We spy on our closest friends, and we throw our staunchest allies under the bus for political gains or diversions. Obama has destroyed our reputation throughout the world as a strong leader of nations. Now we are seen as weak and quick to betray. The Iranian nuclear deal and its devastating impact of the security of Israel is only one example. America’s policy of betrayal is evident throughout the Middle East.

Closer to home, Obama has been highly effective at destroying the American economy and the middle class. Can we blame all of the economic woes on Obama? Of course not. The previous president wasn’t exactly a penny-pincher and added his share to expanding the federal government (ie…Homeland Security Department). However, Obama’s redistribution of wealth campaign has had far greater impact on the job market, inflation (Yes-there is inflation!) and the once flourishing 40-hour work week. We are swiftly switching to a part-time nation because of ObamaCare, and the full impact of higher taxes, penalties, and health insurance costs are yet to be felt by the average citizen. We were lied to and the only voters that could not see that, apparently, were the independents that gave the White House to the democrats, again. Obama hopes that another delay in implementing certain phases of the program will enable democrats to continue fooling the independents and to hang onto the U.S. Senate during the 2014 elections. Keeping control of the senate is key to ObamaCare’s permanent implementation. Once that happens, there is no going back, no more repeal and replace efforts, no more worries for the complicit democrats in the destruction of the free enterprise system and individual liberties we once enjoyed. A 2014 Senate democrat victory will be checkmate.

For about 100 years the progressives have, inch-by-inch, successfully implemented socialist programs that effectively erode citizens’ constitutional freedoms. Whether it is oppression via redistributed wealth (which benefits a powerful central government more than it does the Nation’s poor), restricting freedom of religion, speech, expression, or infringes upon gun rights, state’s rights, etc, it is still oppression. Your constitutional rights, my rights, have been stepped on and devalued.

What Woodrow Wilson began, Barack Obama is taking a huge step in completing: a national transformation to create a federal government so huge and powerful, that all Americans will be forced to depend upon it. Of course, that dependence almost guarantees more votes for the democrats, the drug dealers that made the dependency possible, thereby assuring the democrats hold on power for a long time to come.

Are all social programs evil and harmful to a thriving America? No! America, and any country worth living in, must be compassionate and helpful towards the poor. We do not live in a Utopia, perhaps we never will. Technology and wealth enable modern societies to assist people when they are, at no fault of their own, in dire straits. People lose jobs and incomes. Others get injured or suffer from disease. We have and always should assist those that cannot help themselves. Where Europe, and now America has erred, is to enable significant portions of their populations to take advantage of that generosity and live off the hard work and sweat of the rest of the population, when they were physically and mentally able to provide for themselves. As we witness the devastating fallout in Europe from that sustained, flawed policy, American leaders choose to ignore the facts and follow the same path to destruction.

Conservatives’ and liberals’ minds are made up and will vote as they always do come election time. We have very few opportunities to steer away from this destructive course. Independents and so-called moderates have a last chance, and responsibility, to wake up and start paying attention to this historic moment in United States evolution. Do you agree with the socialists that the Constitution is an obsolete document not suited to a modern society and that an all-powerful federal government is better suited to managing people’s lives from birth to death? Or do you think individual liberties and innovation and a free, competitive marketplace is the best venue for solving problems in the 21st century?

Everybody should be paying full attention to this national transformation. It is not a trivial game. It will change your life significantly, and those generations that follow us. Do not hide from realty by spending all of your time playing video games, watching entertaining television programming, or ignoring the issue. Reserve some amount of time for serious study and analysis of current events. Get involved and informed!

Independents have this last opportunity in the mid-term elections to tell Obama and the democrats, “No You Can’t” destroy the American freedoms and prosperity that they would have their children and grandchildren enjoy, as most of you have in your lifetime. Sometimes, saying no is good for discipline.

“What prosperity?” you may ask. True, many Americans have experienced a level of poverty in their lifetime, as I have. Contrast that definition of poverty, though, to that of poor villagers in a third world country where children have distended stomachs from malnutrition. From that perspective, nearly all Americans have prospered. I just hope we continue to prosper as the years pass.
